All that you need to know about HVAC systems

HVAC literally stands for Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning. HVAC systems include everything from the large ventilation systems use in industrial complexes to small individual air conditioners used at home. A good HVAC system optimally uses all the components of heat transfer, fluid mechanics and thermodynamics to provide indoor thermal comfort.

The visible component of HVAC systems are one of those large A.C boxes you might have seen on top of apartment buildings, industrial and hospital complexes. HVAC systems need to be installed in places where the temperature and humidity need to be regulated, for example, in research laboratories.

How to choose an efficient HVAC system:

It is important that you factor in conditions such as usage, cost and efficiency before making your purchase. This would avoid drawing on excess power and overhead repair costs in the future.

  1. To regulate temperature and humidity for one or two rooms, you might buy single HVAC units that simply affect the room temperature. However, these single units are rather inefficient and typically work at capacity even when not necessary.
  2. Advanced units have variable fan speeds that can be regulated personally. However, they remain inefficient as compared to multi-stage systems.
  3. Zone systems are designed to heat/cool different areas of a single indoor system individually. They are much more energy efficient than single systems
